How to Store Dry Fruits So They Stay Fresh for Months
By Fruitastics Hill Team • Sep 09, 2026 • 3 min read
Heat, light and moisture are the enemies of freshness. Here is how to keep your nuts crunchy and flavourful.
Nuts are rich in natural oils, which is exactly why they can turn rancid if stored badly. Follow these simple rules and your dry fruits will taste fresh until the last handful.
- Use airtight containers: glass jars with tight lids are ideal. Always reseal our zip-lock pouches properly.
- Keep them cool and dark: away from the stove and direct sunlight.
- Refrigerate in summer: walnuts and pistachios last up to 6 months in the fridge.
- Don't mix old and new stock: finish the old batch first.
- Use a dry spoon: moisture invites fungus, especially for dates and figs.
If nuts smell like paint or taste bitter, they have gone rancid — throw them away.
